Scott “Kong” W.
Currently, I manage our Service and Commercial divisions and have four Project Managers that report to me. I will be with Suburban 23 years this fall.
I chose to work here because…
I was looking for a career choice after I dropped out of college and not really sure what I wanted to do. I ran into a friend that worked here and told me that Suburban was hiring. I decided to give it a shot. When I tried to apply, I was told that they were only hiring through a temp agency. I went to the temp agency, applied through them, and was hired the following week. I started here in the late summer/early fall of 1994 and was hired on as a full time employee the following spring. Once I was exposed to the different things we do in the electrical field, I was hooked.
How does it challenge you?
The challenges are why I enjoy my job so much. They can range from dealing with manpower issues, helping strategize what direction we want to go as a company, to basic jobsite issues that may pop up.
What is your career path?
My career path would take me through a Division Leader on up to a higher level in operations. I enjoy being able to develop people to a higher level and that challenge will keep getting stronger as I am able to climb higher.
At the end of the day, I go home…
Knowing we are just getting started. It’s impossible for me to compare with other businesses because I’ve been here so long but it is very exciting to know as great of a company that we have become. We are always looking for ways to improve safety, development, and efficiencies. That’s not to say I’m not fairly exhausted most days when I get home, but the days go by extremely fast.
