Katherine “Kat” B.
I am a Pre-Apprentice Electrician. I assist Journeymen and Master Electricians at jobsites and my daily tasks include everything from demolition to installing new electrical components and bending and threading pipe.
How long have to you been with Suburban?
I have been with Suburban since April of 2017.
I chose to work here because…
I like how Suburban allows me to work on various projects and multiple jobsites within the state of Wisconsin. I heard Suburban really values balancing work and personal life, and that is very important to me. The company atmosphere is amazing and really makes me feel like a valued employee. I also like the fact that they have an Apprenticeship program and they present numerous opportunities for me to expand my career and learn more about the electrical field.
How does it challenge you?
It provides both mental and physical challenges. Physically, I have to be able to carry heavy wire, equipment and tools, and bend large diameter conduit. It also presents a mental challenge because I am constantly learning new things about the electrical field such as how to fix sensors, wire motors and disconnects, thread pipe, and the math needed to bend the different kinds of pipe. In addition, I am learning the best ways to run pipe to make it look neat and efficient for pulling wire.
What is your career path?
My career goal is to enter the Apprenticeship program within a year and start my education to become a Journeyman. My overall goal is to become a Master Electrician, all while building a career with Suburban Electric.
At the end of the day, I go home…
I usually try and go to the gym and take my dogs to the dog park. After that I get to relax with my fiancée and eat dinner while chatting about our day. My nights consist of anything between relaxing in the backyard and chilling with my dogs, kayaking, playing card games, playing sand volleyball or hanging out with friends.
